Dr Barnaby Wright is a specialist in late nineteenth-century and twentieth-century art with a particular interest in modern British art. He studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art (BA, MA, Ph.D., 1996-2004) and began his curatorial career in 2005 as Exhibitions Curator at the Hermitage Rooms in Somerset House, London, where he staged a number of exhibitions in collaboration with The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. He became a curator at the Courtauld Gallery in 2007 and has curated and co-curated a series of exhibitions including: Walter Sickert: The Camden Town Nudes听(2007-08);听Frank Auerbach: London Building Sites 1952-62聽(2009-10);听Cezanne鈥檚 Card Players聽(2010-11, second venue The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York);聽Mondrian-Nicholson: In Parallel听(2012);听Becoming Picasso: Paris 1901聽(2013);听Egon Schiele: The Radical Nude聽(2014-15);听Soutine’s Portraits: Cooks, Waiters and Bellboys聽(2017-18). He has also curated and co-curated a number of shows with contemporary artists at the Courtauld:聽Richard Serra: Drawings for the Courtauld聽(2013);听Jasper Johns: Regrets听(2014);听Bridget Riley: Learning from Seurat听(2015);听Peter Doig聽(2023); and聽Claudette Johnson: Presence聽(2023); and聽The Frank Auerbach: Charcoal Heads听(2024).
