Reflections: contemporary art of the Middle East and North AfricaÌý
From Baghdad to Tehran
Artists from across the Middle East and North Africa have become well known for their imaginative use of the form of the artist’s book.Ìý Varying in material and style, these books range widely in subject matter, from poetry and folktales to those with a strong political contemporary narrative.Ìý Along with text, there is pure abstraction.Ìý A number of these books are included in her exhibitionÌýand this talk will focus on these works along with others from the collection.
Dr Venetia Porter is Assistant Keeper for Islamic and Contemporary Middle East art at the British Museum and Honorary Research Fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art.ÌýÌýShe is the curator ofÌýReflections contemporary art of the Middle East and North AfricaÌýand author of the accompanying book with Natasha Morris and Charles Tripp (British Museum Press 2020).
