Dmitri Prigov was an artist, poet, performer and writer. A key figure of the Moscow Conceptualist group, his work has had a lasting influence on subsequent generations of Russian artists (including some of the artists on view at 鈥楢rt Riot: Post-Soviet Actionism鈥 Saatchi Gallery, 16 November 鈥 31 December). 2017 marks ten years since the artist鈥檚 death in 2007. This one-day celebration includes a seminar considering the ways Prigov鈥檚 genre-defining project has proliferated after his death, video screenings and discussions of key aspects of his work. This event complements the exhibition 鈥樷 at Calvert 22 Foundation, and is part of 鈥楾he Future Remains: Revisiting Revolution鈥 season marking the centenary of the Russian Revolution.

Sabine Haensgen currently leads the research strand 鈥楶erformance Art in Eastern Europe (1950-1990)鈥 at the University of Zurich. She is a Slavic scholar, cultural and media historian and also works as a translator and curator, and since the mid-1980s she has been participating in the performances of the group 鈥淐ollective Actions鈥.

Daniil听M. Leiderman听currently teaches Art History at the Department of Visualization at Texas A&M University.听In 2016,听Daniil听defended a PhD dissertation entitled:听Moscow Conceptualism and 鈥淪himmering鈥: Authority, Anarchism, and Space听at the Department of Art & Archaeology in Princeton University.听The project investigates the Moscow Conceptualists in the context of nonconformism, tracing their development of the critical strategy called 鈥渟himmering鈥 and its relationship to contemporary Post-Soviet and Post-Crimean artistic resistance.听Most recently,听Daniil听has been working on the representation of Eastern Europe and Russia in contemporary video games and related media
