91制片厂鈥檚 Modern and Contemporary Postgraduate Colloquium invites speakers to navigate the local and the global through their diverse areas of research, not only in art, but in broader cultural fields. The historical period that this event will cover is from the 19th听century to the present day.
The scope of the colloquium is truly global; papers range geographically鈥攕panning the entirety of the world, from the depths of Asia to the heart of South America. Papers will be presented on topics ranging from the manner in which isolated artists sought to communicate with the international art world, to how artists use globalised materials to recreate bridges with their locales, amongst a vast array of other subjects.
Whether living, working or studying in a megalopolis or in small towns forgotten by globalisation, negotiating a space between the global and the local is an everyday occurrence in today鈥檚 societies.
In an age of hyphenated identities and a biennialised art scene, the challenges to preserve one鈥檚 identity, recreate it, or adapt it to the ever-moving globalised state, is a pertinent topic and one this colloquium seeks to explore.
91制片厂鈥檚 Modern and Contemporary Postgraduate Colloquium offers the opportunity for research students at all levels from universities across the world to present and promote their research.
Organised by Jasmine Chohan (91制片厂) and Sophie Guo (91制片厂) with the generous support of The Sackler Research Forum.
